Pest Control
At My Pest Control Brisbane we subscribe to the integrated pest management (IPM) approach to pest control.
There are three main elements to this approach:
1. Cultural Control
2. Physical Control
3. Chemical Control
The first thing we do is conduct an inspection of the site in order to determine the pest(s) causing your problem, the extent of the infestation, and the reasons for the problem.
We use this information, along with information you provide us, to formulate a pest management plan to solve your problem
We only use the highest quality branded termiticides and pesticides. They are odourless and you will not have to vacate your property for days waiting for the smell to go away.

Prevention is better than cure where termites are concerned.
1 in every 3 homes in Australia is attacked by termites at some stage in its economic life. And latest figures indicate that the annual cost of termite damage now exceeds $1 billion dollars! This is greater than floods, fire and storms put together.
It should be noted that household insurance does not cover the costs of this damage.
In severe cases it can take as little as 3 months for a colony to severely damage the timber in a home.
Australia’s subterranean termites are the most destructive timber pests in the world and include:
Coptotermes acinaciformis
Schedorhinotermes
Mastotermes darwiniensis

Termite FAQ's
Q. I have lots of black ants so doesn't that mean I do not have termites?
A. No.
Q. I found a nest in the wall and got rid of the mudding. Is the problem fixed now?
A. No.Can you be sure it was the nest? It may be a bivouvac depending on the species.
Q. My house was treated in the 90's with Heptachlor so I'm OK for at least 30 years?
A. You should have annual inspections as recommended by the Australian Standard.
Q. Can you just spray around the house for termites?
A. No. Full treatments start with a Termite Inspection.
Q. But my mate reckons we don't have anything to worry about?
A. Is your 'mate' a licensed pest controller with termite quaifications and BSA licensing?
Q. But surely a few hundred dollars should fix it?
A. Gone are the days of cheap termite treatments. Escalating costs including insurance, termiticides and licensing have all added to the basic cost of providing a suitable solution, not to mention the ongoing liability issues the industry faces. Be wary of very cheap treatments!
Q. How much does a termite barrier cost?
A. Termite barriers are more commonly known now as 'treated zones'. Price depends on many factors and reality is a quote cannot be provided over the phone and without conducting a full termite inspection as per the standard. Most treated zones start at $2000+.
Termite Inspections
We carry out Visual Termite Inspections in accordance with AS 3660.2-2000.
Australian Standard AS3660.2-2000 recommends that these termite inspections be carried out at least on an annual basis.
Additional inspections are recommended when termite activity/pressure is high.
It should be noted that these inspections will not prevent termite attack but will allow evidence of further termite activity to be detected.
Early detection is vital if damage is to be minimized.
Termite Control
We are required to perform our termite treatments which include treated zone installations and termite baiting programs in accordance with the Australian Standards, manufacturers instructions, product labels and our insurers directives.
This ensures that we achieve effective outcomes whilst complying with the Standards and our Duty of Care to you the client.
Approved methods of preventative termite control and treatments are covered by Australian Standard AS 3660.1 (2000).
The most common include:
Dusting
Foaming
Treated Zones
Baiting and Monitoring
Flea Control
The typical flea population consists of 50% eggs, 35% larvae, 10% pupae and 5% adults. It is therefore crucial that flea control treatments treat all 4 stages of the lifecycle.
Most DIY ‘flea bombs’ purchased from the local supermarket will treat the adult fleas but generally fail to treat the other 3 stages of the lifecycle i.e. 95% of the existing flea population!
Insect growth regulators (IGR’s) MUST be used to prevent the development of the immature stages of the flea lifecycle.
These are expensive, generally only available to licensed pest controllers and a good reason why ‘cheap’ one shot flea treatments are mostly ineffective and should be avoided AT ALL COSTS!
Also worth noting is the fact that some flea populations are becoming increasingly resistant to many popular insecticides-especially the ‘over the counter’ varieties.
As a consequence treating fleas successfully has become much more difficult and involved.
My Pest Control uses an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach to flea control.
Our 2 Part Treatment program, which includes the judicious use of adulticides and IGR’s, when combined with appropriate IPM protocols such as regular vacuuming, high heat steam carpet cleaning and pet exclusion will ensure total flea elimination from your property.
Ant Control
Ants can be found almost anywhere around and in the home.
They eat almost anything consumed by humans including fats, proteins and sugars.
An ant control program will include an internal application of liquid sprays and dusts.
Internally we use Phantom insecticide.
Phantom is a major breakthrough in pest control technology.
Phantom is undetectable to pests meaning they do not avoid the treated areas and will pick up a controlling dose without even realising it.
It is the only undetectable, non repellant liquid treatment on the market that can be used inside the home.
We apply Termidor to the exterior foundation walls of the home and around possible access areas to the interior of the home to create an undetectable zone.
Its unique 'Transfer Effect' then allows ants to pass Termidor on to their nest mates who have not even come in contact with the treated areas.
It treats the problem at the source, the nest, and can reduce and eliminate overall ant numbers quickly.
In combination Phantom and termidor form the most comprehensive ant control treatment program on the market today.
Cockroach Control
Cockroaches usually reside in dark, humid places and are mostly nocturnal.
They will eat just about anything including any human food or drink, pet food, dead animals and plant matter.
Only six Cockroaches are serious pests to homeowners in Australia.
They are :
German Cockroach (Blattella Germanica)
This is the most widespread pest cockroach in Australia
Breeds rapidly and favours warm and moist locations such as under refrigerators, stoves and hot water systems.
Australian Cockroach (Periplaneta Australasiae)
Mostly found outside.
Oriental Cockroach (Blatta Orientalis)
Frequently feeding in garbage disposal areas
Smokybrown Cockroach (Periplaneta Fuliginosa)
Mostly found in gardens.
Brownbanded Cockroach (Supella Longipalpa)
Commonly found indoors behind and inside furniture
American Cockroach (Periplaneta Americana)
Prevalent in sewer systems as well as food preparation / eating facilities
A cockroach control program will include internal and external application of liquid sprays, dusts and gels including growth regulators..
Dusting of roof void.
Rodent Control
The three common pest species of rodents found in Australia are:
Norway Rat
Roof Rat
Common House Mouse
They transfer disease by contaminating food, food preparation areas and utensils through contact with their fur, urine and droppings.
They are prolific breeders with a brief life cycle.Mice can fit through a 6mm opening.Rats can fit through a 13mm opening.
A Norway rat can gnaw through a lead pipe.
Rats are creatures of habit whereas mice are more adventurous.
Silverfish prefer damp, moderate temperature places such as basements, laundry rooms and under sinks.
They will almost anything, such as, dried beef, flour, starch, paper, gum, glue, cotton, linen, rayon, silk, sugar, molds, breakfast cereals, wall paper paste, books and papers.
Application of liquid spray base of internal and external walls, eaves, weep holes, cracks and crevices.
Dusting of roof void.
Wasp Control
Wasps are most active in the warmer summer months.
Take care with open soft drink cans, especially during summer. Wasps love sweet liquid and this may lead to stinging of the mouth or throat with potentially serious consequences including respiratory obstruction.
Never approach a wasp nest, as they are more likely to be aggressive when defending the nest.
A liquid spray to nest. Spraying of eaves and potential nesting sites.
